‘Coastal Skies’ reflects the ever-changing variety of skies here in the South Carolina Lowcountry. “Creating art is all about noticing the beauty in the natural world and translating it to canvas,” says Willits. “I feel so fortunate to live in the Lowcountry where the moods of the sky inspire me on a daily basis. My favorite paintings are those that draw me in with depth and atmosphere, and the sky is what usually embodies those qualities in the landscape. My newest paintings explore the many variations of skies from towering storm clouds boiling up out of nowhere on a steamy Summer afternoon to the serene, subtle colors of sunrise at the beach. This is the beauty that I seek to share through my paintings.”

Willits moved to Charleston almost 30 years ago from her hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania and began painting full time in 2005. Working in oil, her landscape paintings reflect the beauty and atmosphere of the South Carolina coast. She is an exhibiting member of the Charleston Artist Guild and is an associate member of Oil Painters of America.
