Jack Alterman, a native of Charleston, opened Alterman Studios in 1980 after becoming interested in photography while serving in the military. After his discharge in 1970, he used his GI Bill to receive formal photography training at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California.
An award-winning photographer, Alterman’s works range from environmental photography to studio portraiture and travel essays. His extensive travels across the world have fueled his inspiration as well as the landscape and people around him in the lowcountry. He is currently working on several new exhibits.
