March 6 - 30, 2020 Trager Contemporary, 577 King St, Charleston, SC 29403 |
Living Inside Color is a show of new works by Charleston abstract artist David French at Trager Contemporary. The opening reception is from 5-8pm on Friday, March 6, 2020 as part of the First Friday Art Walk. This event, free and open to the public, will feature live music, complimentary refreshments and an opportunity to meet the artist and hear him speak about his inspiration and process. French is a Charleston-based artist whose work focuses primarily on the use of oil paint on stretched linen as well as acrylics/ink on paper. After receiving his B.F.A. in visual arts from Carnegie-Mellon University and his M.F.A from Vermont College of Fine Art, he was trained and mentored by color-field artist Sam Gilliam. After French was diagnosed with cancer in 2000, he used art as a means to “create imagery to make sense of certain things that have occurred or he wished to occur,” he says. His newest installation brings color, life, and energy. ![]() Sunset Dream, David French ![]() Indigo Net Space, David French ![]() Sweet Wish Incantation, David French ![]() artist David French |
