Charleston Stage brings The Diary of Anne Frank to the Dock Street Theatre. The Pulitzer and Tony award winning play tells the story of thirteen year old Anne Frank through her diary entries. The diary entries recount her growth, life experiences, hopes, and dreams while hiding from the Nazis in Amsterdam. Solider’s found the family after two years of hiding, and they were sent to concentration camps. The diary was later returned to Anne’s father, Otto Frank, who was the sole surviving member to the family. He published her diary in 1947 and since then has sold millions of copies worldwide. The play, written by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, was produced on Broadway in 1955 as was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Tony Award for Best Play. Talkbacks will be held Feb. 15 and Feb.22 following the Sunday matinee perfomances. The Talkback on Feb. 15 will feature the cast as well as the Director and Charleston Stage Founder, Julian Wiles. The Talkback on Feb. 22 will feature Professor Ted Rosengarten and students from the College of Charleston. His primary field of research is African-American history, but he has been a student of the Holocaust for over 50 years and teaches courses on the topic at College of Charleston and the Honors College at the University of South Carolina. He also directs workshops for middle school and high school teachers and leads semi-annual trips to Poland and Germany.
