Kenton James at the Flagship Gallery

One of our favorite local artists, Kenton James, who show with SCOOP Studios, will open his new show at the Charleston Digital Corridor‘s Flagship Gallery.  Join the Art Pimp Consultants for the opening reception on Thursday from 5:30 – 7:30 pm and enjoy bubbles and nibbles from Social Restaurant and Wine Bar.

James’ paintings are emotional scenes conveying calm and anxiety, stillness and fear.  His work is best described as a type of ‘visual noir,’ a screenshot, a detail, of a much more elaborate scene, which engages the viewer to imagine and rewrite the surrounding narrative in their own way.  In 2010, Kenton has been featured in group shows with Robert Lange Studios and Eye Level Art, and solo shows at SCOOP Studios.   Kenton lives and works in downtown Charleston with his wife Sarah, their dogs Noah and Finn and several rescued cats.  James’ work is on display at the Flagship Gallery August-October 2010.  All work is available for purchase.

The wonderful localvore initiative Lowcountry Local First will hold a New Orleans-style funeral procession for the bevy of wonderful local businesses who have or will be soon closing, like Shine restaurant and the beloved 52.5 Records.  The procession will begin at corner of  John Streets and up King to 501 King Street for the celebration.  Carey Ann Hearst and the Shifters will lead the choir and Rodney Lee Rogers of PURE Theatre will ignite the congregation with an incendiary sermon.
