Last night my boyfriend and I were heading to upper King Street with the intention of getting sushi, but we were distracted on the way.  The storefront beside Blue Bicycle Books, which sat empty for so long, was showing signs of life again.

Massimiliano Sarrocchi, Italian restauranteur, opened his newest project just 10 days ago.  You’ll remember Sarrocchi as the owner of Il Cortile del Re on lower King Street and later Pane e Vino on Warren Street, a veteran of the Charleston restaurant scene.

Osteria La Bottiglia is Sarrocchi’s new spot, where the theme is Wine + Food, not Food + Wine.  But make no mistake, the food is great.  Most of his staff–kitchen, bar and waitstaff–has been with him since Il Cortile.  That kind of loyalty is rare these days.

We started with the Artichoke Bruschetta, roasted artichokes topped with shaved Pecorino ($6), which was plenty to share for two, and a glass of the house Sangiovese ($6.75)–delightful.  They have four house wines, all at $6.75.  Plenty of quality wines by the glass, and nice variety of price points.

I ordered the Tagliatelle with Wild Boar Ragout ($15), a Tuscan style sauce simmered with Chianti and vegetables, which was really nice, a perfect fall/winter dish.  The boy ordered the meat Lasagna ($12–and they do have a veggie version for you herbivores).  I make a ridiculously good lasagna, and I have to tell you, this was the first lasagna I would ever order out.  I mean, seriously good.  We didn’t leave a morsel on the plate.

The food menu is robust for a place where the emphasis is on wine, and there is a lot more I intend to explore, like lobster ravioli, housemade soups and kobe meatballs.  Entrees range from $12 – $18–can’t beat that.  We will be back.  And we will see you there.
