Word came late Wednesday night that Jack McCray had passed away.  Charleston has lost one of it’s best.

As a big Jazz Artists of Charleston and Charleston Jazz Orchestra enthusiast, I’ve had the privilege to spend time with and learn from Jack.  He’s been one of the most active and influential supporters of the JAC and CJO, and we are all better for having known him.

His enthusiasm and energy were inspiring.  His knowledge on jazz was broad and deep.  His love for it was endless.  His influence will hopefully be too.

Love, sympathy and prayers go out to Jack’s family and friends, to the members of the JAC and CJO, to all who had the privilege to know him, and all who hadn’t yet met this incredible soul.  We thank you for all you did, Jack, and we’ll miss you enormously.  We at Art Mag will do our best to continue your legacy.
