News > Get Ready for Indaco – Soon to Open on Upper King

Keep your eyes peeled for Indaco – a new Italian concept brought to Upper King by our old friends at The Indigo Road, the same people who brought us Oak Steakhouse, O-Ku, The Cocktail Club, and Macintosh.

Indaco, the Italian word for “indigo” (pronounced “in-dá-co”), will serve rustic Italian fare keeping the region’s tradition of sharing at the restaurant’s core. Catering to Charleston taste, Indaco will source ingredients locally when possible, featuring items from area and regional purveyors alike. One menu feature to keep an eye out for is the 24-month-cured Iberico ham from Bev Eggleston of EcoFriendly Foods. Eggleston was the recipient of the 2013 Good Food Award for charcuterie and his famous hams will be among the craft products to be found at the restaurant. Indaco promises excellence from its kitchen, which will boast wood-fire grills, ovens, and rotisseries.

Rustic entrees,wood-fire pizzas, pastas, housemade salumi and house-cured sausages and meats will fill the restaurant’s menu, all prepared by Robert Berry, a 2002 graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France who got his start at Slightly North of Broad. With all of these delicious ingredients on the menu, the restaurant will need make sure they have a great inventory management system going here. In addition to the a la carte menu, Berry will feature a family-style menu, as well as a craft cocktail program featuring Italian classics.

We are excited to expand the horizons of The Indigo Road and are eager to open the restaurant doors to the Charleston community.”

Indaco will open its doors the first week of August at 526 King Street. Put it down as a definite to try on your Charleston summer to-do list!
