CLEVERLY CREATIVE COMBINATIONS
by Sarah Miller
His daughter was celebrating her 4th birthday when Stephen McMennamy snapped a photo of her and then one of a balloon. While playing around with the PicFrame app, he combined the two cropped images and found the result to be pretty hilarious. Since then, the complexity of his productions, as well as his Instagram following, has grown substantially.
McMennamy is the creative director at BBDO in Atlanta, GA. You may have seen his work featured in ad campaigns for AT&T, Norwegian Cruise Lines, or even Toys R Us. Just this month, he was approached by a well-loved fried chicken franchise to increase international munching. His day job sounds pretty incredible to those of us who use the right side of our brains during the workweek, but he was still looking for more.
“My job allows for plenty of creativity,” McMennamy recently told WIRED online, “but as you slip into more of a management role, you end up doing less of the making. I missed getting my hands dirty, and that’s exactly what this project has given back to me.”
In December, his photography was shown at a prominent South Beach hotel during Art Basel, Miami. In Charleston, his photography has been exhibited in the group show Lions and Tigers and Bears at The Vendue and at Workshop: A Building Art Company on upper King Street. Even Esquire has taken a liking to his creative mash-ups.
