News > Annual Palette & Palate Stroll Does Not Disappoint

Though the humidity in the air was thick, the mood downtown last Friday night was light, conversational, and full of all the enjoyment that comes with good food and great wine amidst the backdrop of inspiring art.  In its eighth year, the Palette & Palate Stroll paired nine galleries with nine of the top chefs in Charleston for a night of popping in and out of galleries spanning from Broad to Queen.

Sure to satisfy the preferences of all event-goers palates and palettes, both the art and food was eclectic.  In Robert Lange Studios, art connoisseurs could take in the introspective work of Mia Bergeron in her Gradual Thaw exhibit while family-owned Anglin Smith took viewers through Lowcountry and European landscapes interpreted in the style of contemporary realism and vibrant color.

The cuisine was exactly what you would expect from some of Charleston’s best chefs —nothing short of fantastic.  On the more modern side of the spectrum, Tristan delivered a delicious white peach curd with Cerignola olives, sea salt and lemon agrumato while Anson shaved ice on-demand for their blackberry n’ bourbon snow cone.  Circa 1886’s yuzu marinated cuttlefish ceviche was delightfully fresh with a spicy element that had more than one person going back for seconds.  And for comfort food, Cypress cooked up smoked pork belly served with cornbread and plum BBQ.

Presented by the Charleston Fine Arts Dealers’ Association (CFADA), Palette & Palate benefits its visual arts scholarship.  Participating galleries included Anglin Smith Fine Art, Corrigan Gallery, Dog & Horse Fine Art, Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art, Helena Fox Fine Art, Horton Hayes Fine Art, Martin Gallery, Robert Lange Studios and The Sylvan Gallery. Restaurants represented were Anson, Barsa Tapas, Circa 1886, Cypress, Halls Chophouse, Lucca, Oak, Social and Tristan.
