Charleston has had a great loss this week. David Stahl, director of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra for the last 25 of the organization’s 75 years, passed away Sunday, October 24. Stahl had a brief and aggressive battle with lymphoma, passing only a month after his wife Karen lost her battle with breast cancer.

Stahl has been integral in the growth of Charleston’s symphony, and it is truly worrisome that his death comes at a time when the future of the CSO is more uncertain than ever. I encourage the city to take up his mantle and fight for the preservation of our superior symphony in his memory.
