Eye Candy: Visual Arts

From Void to Void by Sinisa Kukec

Croatian artist Sinisa Kukec evokes sensuality in every piece he makes. Kukec bends the perception of everyday objects and transforms them into original and emotionally provoking sculptures.  From hand-etched glass to amorphous dripping globule structures, which resemble DNA strands of breeding contagions, Kukec’s environment is both alien and eerily homey. If you’re brave enough to delve into Kukec’s strange and fascinating world, you can visit his exhibition, From Void to Void. The event will be held at Redux Contemporary Art Center, a venue that’s never been fearful of diving into the fascinatingly unfamiliar.  —MR

F. Scott Hess: The Paternal Suit
Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art

F. Scott Hess debuts his multi-media project, The Paternal Suit, a surprising mix of “artifacts”—sculpture, ceramics, furniture, toys, newspaper clippings, historic photographs, guns, and costumes that together tell the story of Hess’ carefully researched paternal ancestry, spanning over four hundred years of American history. Driven by the need to learn more about the father who abandoned him as a child, Hess’ investigation seeks to reveal which aspects of American history are “true” and which are exaggerated or time-worn.  —CBH
