Meet Me in Marion Square

The Charleston Farmers Market is a truly magical place.

In the early hours of each summer and fall Saturday morning, local artisans and food vendors transform Marion Square into a marketplace full of mouthwatering sights and smells. From blueberries to baguettes, from jewelry to purses—the Farmers Market has everything a shopper could need. And the best part? Everything is locally made or grown right here in the Lowcountry.

The Art Mag team recently spent a morning meandering through the tables and tents, doing what we do best: eating and drinking. It’s clear that some of the best food and drink Charleston has to offer can be picked up right there in the square – no reservations required.

Here are a few of our favorite spots:

Street Hero’s Vietnamese tacos and Banh Mi sandwiches are perfect for a lunch in the park. What exactly is Banh Mi? A unique French-Vietnamese sandwich full of lemon grass chicken or pork, carrots, cabbage, cucumbers, cilantro, and a spicy aioli sauce. Go with the spicy pork- we were in awe.

Go see the boys in the bowties for a refreshing, seasonally inspired soda at Cannonborough Beverage Company. Matt, Mick, and Brandon are serving up the most creative and tasty beverages in all of the South – like raspberry verbena and blueberry ginger.

If fruits and veggies are what you seek, The Juice Joint’s beverages and smoothies are a deliciously refreshing treat made with local produce. We recommend the hand-pressed lemonade on a warm day. The “Reviver”- a blend of carrot, celery, apple, and ginger juice is also delicious.

Last but not least, stop by the King of Pops stand for dessert. These amazing little popsicles are made with local ingredients and can be found all around Charleston. Be sure to try the Chocolate Seasalt popsicle, made with Art Mag’s favorite local chocolate, Sweeteeth Chocolate.

Some of our favorite non-food vendors – from soap to art to fresh produce:
