Southeastern Wildlife Exposition

Every February, locals and visitors alike flock to Charleston for the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE), a three-day festival celebrating wildlife and nature conservation through art, exhibits, and lectures. SEWE’s mission is to raise awareness about wildlife conservation through nature education programs, while simultaneously showcasing “the finest wildlife art available in the world.” The weekend’s events include a flight demonstration from The Center for Birds of Prey, demonstrations on fly-fishing and net casting, the popular “dock dogs” competition, a presentation by naturalist Jack Hanna, and several extensive exhibits from internationally renowned artists.

Of course, we’re particularly interested in the art! Don’t miss works by featured poster artist Dustin Van Wechel, whose oils evoke the majesty of western wildnerness, and sculptor Don Rambadt, who creates breathtaking abstracts of birds. The most extensive exhibit will be at the Charleston Place Hotel, but definitely make sure to go to the Francis Marion Hotel for the Landscapes & Locals exhibit and the Nature Photography show at the Embassy Suites on Meeting Street.

Landscapes & Locals
Charleston is truly a place of inspiration, and many of our local artists create works based on the beauty that surrounds us daily. Lucky us!

Although we celebrate Charleston’s thriving art community year-round, SEWE creates a unique opportunity to feature the best landscape and wildlife artists the Lowcountry has to offer. Art Mag is proud to sponsor this year’s Locals & Landscapes exhibit, which will be on display at the Francis Marion Hotel (near Marion Square) all weekend. Check out the diverse range of nature-filled works from Charleston artists.
