Buttermilk Biscuits

from CHEF DANIEL DOYLE of POOGAN’S PORCH

whiskIngredients:

1 cup sifted self-rising flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. sugar
1⁄4 cup shortening
4 oz. buttermilk (room temperature)

Karson-ArtMag-1283Mix flour, baking powder, and sugar thoroughly—cut in shortening until you make coarse crumbs—add 3 oz. buttermilk, and mix.

Add remaining buttermilk until desired consistency is achieved.

Put dough mixture on floured surface for kneading.

Pat dough to 1⁄2 inch thickness and use biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on lightly greased baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Brush the biscuits with melted butter the moment they come out of the oven. Serve warm and enjoy!
